A couple of Anson High School students are making history. Senior Jacob Vinson and sophomore Hunter Teichelman will be the first students from AHS to make it to STATE in fishing. Last year was the first year our students had the chance to represent Anson High School in THSBA (Texas High School Bass Association) thanks to the hard work of Ag Teacher Stephen Scitern who got the program started for Anson.
During the 2022-2023 school year, Anson had five teams in the fishing program. The team of Jacob Vinson and Asher Jobe advanced to the regional tournament. They ended up with $350 each in scholarship winnings for the year. Their best finish was placing 4th out of almost 200 HS teams at Lake Granbury.
This year Anson again had 5 teams. The team of Jacob Vinson and Hunter Teichelman advanced all the way to the STATE Tournament whicht will take place this weekend at Lake Palestine. So far this year they have won the THSBA tournament at Lake Granbury, each winning $1000 in scholarship money. Out of almost 200 teams in THSBA, they ended up getting 6th place overall for the year.
Jacob and Hunter also fished in the BASS Youth Nation Division this year and have placed in the top 15 a few times and won the tournament at Lake Granbury, winning over $1500 each in cash and prizes, and also won $250 each in that tournament for big bass. They have advanced to STATE in this division and will fish at Cedar Creek Lake in June for that tournament. If they do well in that tournament, then they will have the opportunity to fish in the National Tournament that will be held in Tennessee this summer.
