Anson High School’s very own Tawnee Bland gets National Recognition for her artwork titled Beginning and Ending in Beauty and Peace (the photo below with the moonrise and cactus). She just found out that her artwork was selected as the winner to represent the state of Texas. It will be on display in the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC for the next year. Tawnee has always been a dedicated student in the art program even choosing to give up her senior office aid period to go to the art room and paint. She received many honors throughout her middle school and high school career. Her Peace Poster for the Lion’s Club in 7th grade advanced to the Brand and Creative Dept. at International Headquarters; she advanced to the Regional level with every VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) project she created throughout high school
In 2022 her artwork advanced to state; in her senior year she had artwork chosen to be displayed at the Bullock Museum in Austin for YAM (Youth Art Month), and now her artwork has been recognized nationally to be displayed in Washington DC.
Tawnee is not only a wonderful artist but she has also stayed involved in other programs throughout high school. She has performed in One Act Play all four years of High School, been a cheerleader her freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and was mascot her senior year. Tawnee played basketball during her freshman and sophomore years and has played varsity softball all four years of high school.
In 2022 Tawnee was a state qualifier in pole bending for Texas High School Rodeo Association (THSRA). She has participated in high school rodeo for 3 years. Tawnee was voted 2024 Miss AHS. Tawnee Dee Bland is the daughter of Dee and Jill Bland. She has one brother, Wacee, and one sister, Teegan. After graduation, she plans to attend Texas State University in the fall where she will pursue a degree in fine arts to continue her art career.
"I have been privileged to be able to see Tawnee grow as an artist, having taught her in 8th grade and her junior and senior years (although I can’t claim to have taught her anything, she is a much better painter than I ever thought of being). She is one of the most talented student artists I have ever seen and I know she is going to continue creating beautiful artwork. I feel like this final project being recognized is a perfect ending to her high school career, and it is so fitting that the title completely describes this year. She began the school year making beautiful artwork that brings peace to the viewer, and she’s ended it by creating beautiful artwork that brings peace to the viewer. I am so proud of her, and I am excited that she is going to continue her art career by majoring in art at Texas State University. I know great things are in store for her as an artist, and I pray that she never loses her fun outgoing personality."

"Tawnee is one of those kids that you love to have on your team. She is hard working, and has a fun loving personality that is sure to keep a smile on your face. She is going to be missed next year, but I am excited to see what the future holds for her."
