Terry Cox Award Recipient Belinda Salge and students

The annual Anson Chamber of Commerce banquet was wonderful, fun event as usual. Several of our all-star faculty and students were honored with awards.

The night began with Tyler Wilburn and Tawnee Bland being named Mr. & Miss AHS. This honor is voted on by the high school faculty and is meant to recognize the senior boy and girl that has best represented the school district in a number of areas including academics, sports, art, FFA, band, and community service.Mr. AHS Tyler WilburnMiss AHS Tawnee Bland

The Educator of the Year was also announced. That honor went to Treyla Henrich. Spending the majority of her career, 16 out of 18 years, in education at Anson demonstrates her dedication and loyalty to the school and its community. Her commitment to both teachers and students speaks volumes about her passion for education and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her.

One of the newest members of the Anson ISD family was honored with the Terry Cox Spirit Award. This award is given to a community member who gives unselfishly to the community. There is no better description of this recipient, Belinda Salge. She has only been in our community a short time, but she loves our students, our staff, and their families. She goes above and beyond in everything she does. And of course, she insisted that all the students that were in attendance be in her picture.

Finally, Jay Baccus was named Man of the Year. Jay is our superintendent. He is retiring this year with 36 years of service in education - all of it in our district. He has been a math teacher, tennis coach, principal, and superintendent. Those are only his official titles. He jumps in and does whatever needs to be done - maintenance, bus driving, tutoring, subbing. The list goes on and on. He does what needs to be done to support the students, the school, and the town.
