Burning AHS

Thoughts from some of our students -

Last night, the parking lot of Anson High School lit up with school spirit and love from one community. The cheerleaders, band, football team, coaches, and many other community members were present to witness the newly found tradition of Anson High. It was heartwarming to see the community join together for one cause, to get homecoming week started! Many people such as board members and parents put a lot of dedication to make last night possible. Mr. Scitern and some of the ag students even built the "AHS" letters that were burnt, Anson High School can't thank the community enough for coming together to show support to all our exes and current athletes. - Tayli Jo Henrich, Jr.

The Burning of the letters last night was a really cool and fun idea. I was in the band so we were playing music while all the cheerleaders were dancing. We played a couple songs like The Horse and Louie Louie. All of the seniors got together and ran around the letters that were burning. This idea should be a tradition every year because it's such a great idea to get people together and hang out. It also lets the seniors have a special night to take pictures with their families. - Dakota Shaw, Jr.

Band at burning the letters

The Letter Burning was one of my favorite school events. It really brought us together as a community to appreciate our homecoming. Having us seniors run around the letters while holding hands was a fun idea, and I really enjoyed having that moment with my classmates. The burning letters were very symbolic and beautiful. Having the band playing and the cheerleaders cheering made the experience that much better. - Lillian Saferight, Sr.

The burning of the letters is a great way to get everyone excited about homecoming. It was very neat to see the community come together to support each other. It was a great way to show the football boys that we will always be supporting them.  It gave the seniors a time to appreciate the school and the community. I would like to see this become one of Anson’s new traditions. - Avan Jobe, Jr.

Team/cheer at burning the letters

Burning the Letters was an old tradition that Anson brought back for the class of 2024. During this ceremony, the cheerleaders hyped up the crowd, the band got people moving, and Jay Baccus encouraged the Tigers. This tradition is held to represent the pride of the community and the seniors' accomplishment of completing their last year of high school. Burning the Letters will be a memory the seniors hold onto forever and a time the community came together. Hopefully this tradition will continue on to the next generations to come. - Chloe Fernandez, Jr.
